Blog the Sprog

It's a very weird thing, making a person. I honestly never thought I'd do it, but here we are... so I'm gonna tell it like it is. It's a very scary and exciting time. Yikes!

The Great Maternity Wear rip-off!

This issue has been discussed on the blog before, but it needs a re-visit...

The most annoying part of pregnancy is the 'what to wear' issue. Maternity wear is a complete rip-off - and it's mostly really ugly too!

I have bought only 3 proper maternity items so far (all black... the other options being hideous paisley patterns or bright yellow and orange prints - bleugh!):

1 x black skirt - R320
1 x black top - R140
1 x black pants - R200
Total: R660

These were bought at Woolworths and a very nice (but very expensive) place that makes nice maternity wear called 'Looking Swell'.

I have also bought a bunch of nice, non-ugly larger tops and pants from 'normal' shops (where I usually buy my clothes):

1 x blue cotton pants - R80
1 x blue vest - R18
1 x green vest - R18
1 x white shirt - R25
2 x blue tops - R30 each
Total: R201

Don't tell me it's not a moneymaking scam! Grrrr...

Getting on...

As I near the big THIRD TRIMESTER, I never thought I could feel so tired...

The simplest things like taking a shower, getting dressed or feeding the cats takes it all out of me and I need to rest afterwards.

Am still trying to exercise but it's down to aqua class once a week (twice if lucky) and preggie yoga once a week (which is a very nice gentle class).

Can't walk much at all - it kills my back! Even 20 minutes around the shopping mall is becoming impossible.

Am luckily still sleeping quite well considering - apart from getting up to pee once or twice a night.

My biggest worry now is driving - I have about 5cm to go before my belly reaches the steering wheel! My seat is as far back as possible... am just reaching the pedals on tip-toe. Justin might just be playing chauffeur soon!

Battle of the bellies returns!

As you can see, I've exploded in the last few weeks! Kets is trying hard to keep up (bless him, the man is eating curry for 3!) but this is a tough contest and not for sissies...
Current Cravings: honey, orange juice (yay, healthy stuff!)

The Name Game

Ok, so now that we know it's a girl, the name search continues...

We are taking suggestions, so please feel free to give us yours. But be aware:

* We are only naming her when we see her, but want to have some ideas to work with.
* Considering the surname, the name must be SIMPLE and easy to spell, but not too boring.
* We are being very difficult and fussy - we know! It's a big decision dammit!

Right - get your suggestions in, either on the blog here or to dori73sa@gmail.com

Sugar and spice...

So it seems sprog is officially a girl!

To quote the doc at my 24-week scan, "There is a distinct lack of male genitalia." If it's not a girl we're in trouble... ;)

So from now on 'it' will be 'she'.

Movin' and Shakin'!

The last couple of weeks I've been kicked a lot! There is a definite difference between the little flutters of movement I started feeling at 15 weeks to what's happening now...

I am even being woken in the night by the kicks. It's not sore (people keep asking if it is), but it sometimes gives me a bit of a jump when it happens.

The freakiest thing was a couple of days ago, I was sitting on the couch watching TV and looked down at my belly and SAW the movement! Really like a little alien now... ;)
